The idea of cosmetic surgery being an exclusive, high-end commodity stemmed from the fact that cosmetic enhancements are costly, thus creating the impression of a higher social status for those who undergo them, regardless of gender. Therefore, individuals may opt for cosmetic enhancements not just for personal reasons, but also to signal their elevated status, especially when it comes to attracting a life partner.
The research concludes that "consumers may "go under the knife" to signal social status."
What to say if someone asks if you had cosmetic surgery, and they want to do the same
It's quite common for someone to say, "Wow, you look different today. What did you do?" or "There's something different about you today!" Most often, the changes would not be drastic if it was a good cosmetic procedure or medical aesthetics enhancement. You'll simply look like the best version of yourself.
