Does liposuction incisions cause scars? | 8 Steps to minimise lipo scarring
What do lipo scars look like? While caring for liposuction incisions and wounds to mitigate scarring seem daunting, the process is easy if you know what to do.
Most of us experience areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise, and it can be frustrating when nothing seems to shift these stubborn fatty deposits.
Established in 2004, our forte lies in body sculpting. Dr Ivan Puah's MDC-Sculpt®️ Lipo technique is a multi-dimensional contouring approach that targets stubborn fat that fails to respond to exercise or diet. It is customised to work on each individual's unique body shape, fat anatomy, fat distribution and skin laxity.
Simultaneously encourages skin tightening while removing unwanted fat.
Recovery is fast with minimal discomfort and pain. Patient is able to return to normal activities within 1 -2 days.
Scars are kept to the bare minimum by strategically creating incisions to allow efficient access to the three fat layers.
Creates natural and well-defined contours, that is uniquely you.

Results from this procedure will not grow back and are permanent due to the unique nature of the fat cells.
However, new fat cells can develop if you gain a considerable amount of weight, such as 10kg. If you gain a small amount of weight, the existing fat cells will merely get bigger from the new fat accumulation. The existing fat cells can shrink when one goes on a diet or exercises the consumed calories away.
A healthy lifestyle and weight maintenance are recommended to help your results last.
As the procedure involves suctioning the fat, you can expect immediate changes. However, post-surgery tissue swelling will set in soon after. Patience is the key to appreciating the full contouring results between 3 and 6 months.
During the consultation, our doctor will discuss in detail with you on the expected results before the procedure and throughout the aftercare appointments.

If no weight is gained after the liposuction surgery, there will not be any fat build-up in the treated area. Do note that liposuction cannot retard the ageing process. It is natural for the fat pockets to change as one gets older. Nonetheless, the liposuction result will still be evident despite the ageing process.
In Singapore, liposuction is strictly regulated by the Ministry of Health Singapore. Any amount greater than 2 litres removed in a single procedure can result in a higher risk of complications. It is best to stagger the procedure schedule for those who require more fat removal.
Losing postpartum fat on the tummy and waist is always a concern for new mums. The versatility of the MDC-Sculpt®️ Lipo technique enables Dr Ivan Puah to perform a comprehensive 360-degree fat removal and sculpting for the common troubled zones such as the abdomen and waists for natural and optimal results for patients.
Doing so not only creates a natural curvature with visible results but also assists mummies in tightening loose skin and improving scarring (if any).
Having trained in to perform liposuction is only the beginning. Dr Ivan Puah believes it is crucial to understand and master the technicalities of the procedure, including the potential complications that may arise. To be meticulous in approach, with a detailed overview and foresight capabilities, are essential must-haves for a doctor.
Dr Ivan Puah is an accredited liposuction doctor and Chairman of Lipo Peer Review Committee in Singapore in Singapore with nearly two decades of surgical body contouring experience. He has completed fundamental and advanced Vaser Liposuction body sculpting surgical training under Dr John Milard and Dr Alfredo Hoyos in Argentina and Colorado.

Is it necessary to wear a compression garment post-surgery?
Donning on a compression garment for a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks will help to compress tissue swelling and hasten the recovery.
How much does liposuction cost in Singapore?
In general, the charges are based on the doctor’s experience, treatment areas and patient’s clinical condition. Other charges include the type of anaesthesia used, hospital or surgical facility costs, medical tests such as blood tests, post-surgery garments, pre and post-medication, etc.
How long is the surgery?
Depending on the body regions and the number of areas to be treated, the surgery may generally take between 1.5 and 3.5 hours.
How much weight can I lose with Modern Liposuction With MDC-Sculpt®️ Lipo Technique?
It is not meant for weight loss but to contour and sculpt your body, removing fat that does not respond to diet and exercise.
Why does fat deposit on the hips and thighs of women and around the stomachs of men?
This general acceleration in body fat accumulation, particularly sex-specific fat, is mainly attributed to changes in female hormone levels. After adolescence, the accumulation of sex-specific fat more or less stops in healthy-weight women, and there is usually no further increase in the number of fat cells. Fat cells in males also do not tend to multiply after adolescence.
Men tend to store visceral fat. A large potbelly, where waist girth begins to exceed hip girth, is strongly associated with an increased risk of coronary artery disease, diabetes, elevated triglycerides, hypertension, cancer, and general overall mortality.
Why can't some fat, especially our belly fat, disappear with a healthy diet and exercise?
Getting rid of your belly bulge is important for more than just vanity's sake. Excess abdominal fat – particularly visceral fat that surrounds your organs and puffs your stomach into a "beer gut" – is a predictor of heart disease, type II diabetes, insulin resistance, and some cancers.
If diet and exercise haven't done much to reduce your pooch, then your hormones, age, and other genetic factors may be why.
Why is it harder for us to lose fat as we get older?
As we age, our body changes how it gains and loses fat. Both men and women experience a declining metabolic rate or the number of calories the body needs to function normally.
On top of that, women have to deal with menopause. If women gain weight after menopause, fat is more likely to gain on and around the belly area.
In menopause, the production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone slows down. Meanwhile, testosterone levels also start to drop at a slower rate. This shift in hormones causes women to hold onto weight in their bellies.
I have liposuction done elsewhere and I have dents and bulges. What can I do?
Botched liposuction is surprisingly very common and often results from incomplete liposuction (under-correction), with bulges of fat behind, leaving the patient looking more disproportionate than before. Other reasons could be excessive liposuction (overcorrection) that creates unevenness, irregular contouring, and unsightly depressions, causing disfigurement in the treated areas. Large, dark, and dented scars and folds can also result from poorly done liposuction jobs.
Dr Ivan Puah has been performing corrective (revision) surgeries over the years, incorporating his proprietary approach to treat these issues. If you are one of the victims of poorly done liposuction surgery, you have a choice not to live with these disfigurements for life.
